Appearance:
Kurama is a demon trapped in the body of a human. He remains in this form most of the time, even after acquiring the means to transform back into the youko demon he was before.
Kurama in human form is about 5’7” in height. His human alias is called “Minamino Shuuichi,” and is 17-years-old. He has large, slanted, green eyes and long, bushy, hair of a bright red that reaches his mid-back. He is slender in body build and flexible, enabling him to dodge and attack with ease. All in all, his appearance is very pretty and admirable, which has resulted in many admirers of both human and demon species.
Human Kurama usually wears his magenta school uniform, which consists of a long sleeve shirt and pants. Human Kurama also wears Chinese-style battle uniforms with simple but beautiful designs.
Kurama has been mistaken for a girl at least once, and his boyish voice does not help. Also, there has been at least one instance in which his beauty has caused him to be the target of unwanted attention and actions. An example of such an instance is Karasu, a demon that Kurama had to fight in the Dark Tournament, which was a tournament of demons that he, along with four others, were invited to attend. Karasu “loved” and “admired” Kurama in a twisted, sadistic way, such that Karasu wished to kill him and watch him die. Karasu said that he “enjoyed killing things that he liked.” Kurama succeeded in destroying him for trying to harass him.
Youko Kurama, or Kurama’s previous demon form, is near 6 feet in height and is pale and muscled, though still slender and graceful. Youko Kurama has long silver hair down his back past his waist and has a pair of long, white fox ears. He also has a white fox tail. In contrast from human Kurama’s green eyes, Youko Kurama has yellow eyes. Though human Kurama is beautiful in a gentle, almost feminine sense, Youko Kurama has a deadly sort of beauty – mysterious and alluring. He wears a white robe that bares his arms and flows down to just past his knees, and he wears pants underneath it.
It is also known that Kurama has a fox form. The requirements for being a youko is to be a fox that has lived for at least 100 years. Kurama has probably lived for more. In legends, youkos are said to have multiple tails, one for each century of living. In fox form, Kurama has at least three tails, but it is uncertain whether he has more, as he is almost never in fox form. When he is in such a form, he is white, as is customary of youkos, and has red eyes. Lean of frame and swift, it was this form that Kurama’s soul took when he fled Makai upon being gravely injured by a bounty hunter.

Personality:
The Kurama of now has learned to be compassionate and caring. He is loyal and supportive of his friends and is protective of his loved ones, especially his mother. At one point in time, he has even offered his life in exchange for the health of his mother. Kurama cares about his companions to the point of being able to throw himself in front to take the damage for them. Anyone who harms or attempts to harm his friends and family will pay with merciless death.
He is extremely helpful and is polite and courteous in manner. He is calm, composed, and attentive to details, always observant of everything that is going on around him and applying his fox-like cunning and strategy to come up with usually seam-less plans of action. He does not startle easily. He is praised for being intelligent, earning great respect from most everyone. His quiet personality and sense of humor are liked by people around him.
As a human, Kurama is the top of his class at school, both in intelligence and in looks. He is popular among the girls and even some of the boys at his school. His innocent face and friendly attitude are a plus when it comes to socializing and talking with others. His intellectual abilities are proved to be the high when usually ranks in the top two places in his entire school. At one point in time, a third-year student asked him, a second-year, to join the student council and become their president, “because only you can do it!” Kurama politely declined, saying that it was too much responsibility for him. This also emphasizes his modesty. He is confident in his words and actions, but never arrogant, knowing when to retreat or submit.
In his past Youko form, Kurama was ruthless and cold, neither hesitating to rob or kill. Indeed, he was recognized as being the most feared demon thief in Makai (Demon World). Youko Kurama had even hired an assassin to kill off his right-hand man when Kurama felt that he was becoming useless and impeding. Youko Kurama is knowledgeable in torture and violence, summoning malevolent plants to destroy, torture, or threaten enemies. He does not hesitate to kill. When Kurama first transforms back into Youko Kurama, he is still very much the same, cold person. But as time grows, Youko Kurama’s former power is gradually transferred to the body of Minamino Shuuichi of the present, so that whenever Kurama transforms, he has the personality of the present, but the powers of his past.
Kurama is an almost completely different being when provoked. He becomes more lethal and ruthless, aiming for one goal – that is obliterating the enemy. No mercy, just swift and effective speed and death. This has been seen on a number of occasions, including during the Dark Tournament, punishing a manipulative adversary, and dealing revenge for his friend’s seeming death. Kurama is to be feared when he is in this mood, for the youko beneath the innocent face is seen clearly, the threat imminent.

Abilities/Strengths:
Kurama has several weapons that he uses, both in the Youko and Ningen (human) form. He also has several attacks that are far too numerous to name. They are described here. The plants he summons or transforms are also part of his weapon stash.
The Rose Whip is Kurama’s main weapon that is the transformed version of a rose that has been filled with Kurama’s energy. It is essentially a long vine with thorns adorning its length, capable of slicing through positively everything. It is lightning-fast and is used often. Other attacks/defenses that Kurama uses roses for include an defensive move in which Kurama makes the rose petals fly about him in whirling circles, each petal a deadly blade, effectively keeping the enemy at a distance and also protecting Kurama. Also, it seems that he does not necessarily need to use his hands to control the Rose Whip. In one of the fights during the Dark Tournament, Kurama used his hair to control the Whip when his arms and legs were rendered useless.
Kurama is capable of summoning various plants from Makai. Plants that he have summoned include a flying-type plant that attaches itself to Kurama’s back in the form of butterfly wings; large, Venus-flytrap-like plants of a deadly crimson shade that attack whatever moves; a deadly plant that feeds on demon blood; and various others.
Besides summoning, Kurama can also plant seeds of such plants. These seeds can sprout and grow at Kurama’s beck and call. While this is true of all plants, both from Makai and in the human world, Kurama uses some of these seeds to defeat his opponents. Some examples: Death Seed, which feeds on blood and sprouts up from the victim’s skin, killing the victim and blooming into the most beautiful of flowers; Tree of Evil Thoughts, which imprisons the victim and feeds of it like a parasite, causing unending illusions and hallucinations for the victim, eventually killing them.
Kurama is also educated in hand-to-hand combat and will use this if absolutely necessary. Kurama can also expel steam and mist from his hands, probably an effect from some plant that he uses.
In Youko form, Kurama can still use all of these abilities, but he has more power and more weapons. Youko Kurama has fox-like features, meaning ears, tail, and claws. Usually, in Youko form, Kurama prefers to use his claws and plants rather than the Rose Whip. The whip, it seems, was only necessary because his human form lacked the body to perform all of what Youko Kurama does to attack.

Because of his knowledge of plants, Kurama is also somewhat of a healer. Therefore, he is practiced in medicinal herbs and the art of concocting potions. While this part of him is not often seen, it is there nonetheless. With the rise of his demon power, Kurama’s sense of smell, which was already very well-developed because he is a fox after all, has also become stronger to the point of being able to recognize individual demon auras and youki.
As mentioned before, Kurama is socially adept and is intellectually above average due to his natural fox-like cunning and his many centuries of experience. He can also not only defeat a foe physically, but mentally as well, by psychological means.


Weaknesses:
Kurama’s main weakness is his newly developed compassion. Because of this, Kurama’s parents, and later on younger brother, are often targeted by his enemies as a way to force him to follow their wishes. This is also done with his friends. Kurama is definitely aware of this weakness, but he chooses not to change it because he does not wish to turn back into the cold, heartless youko he was before.
Kurama’s human body and thus, limitations on his power, are also weaknesses. Because the body of Shuuichi is that of a human, Kurama cannot attack in the way that he would have done as a youko. His demon energy (youki) is also limited because he is in the body of a human, therefore giving him a harder time during battles. The youki level of his human form is considerably smaller than the youki level of his youko form. It was once measured that his human form only gave off about a level of 1,000 in youki, while in comparison, his youko form was above 150,000.
In an example of a more psychological weakness, Kurama does not like being taken advantage of because of his beauty and/or fragile outward appearance. He was noticeably disturbed by Karasu when he first met him because the bat demon managed to get behind him and wrap his hands around his neck and hair without Kurama noticing until it actually happened. Kurama was shaken by the encounter and proceeded from then on to train himself by imagining a fight himself fighting with Karasu, always logically ending in his mind as a victory for Karasu. It was also this incident that caused him to want to return to his youko form freely so that he might have more power. Kurama made killing Karasu his primary goal until it was accomplished, which conveys how strongly Kurama feels Karasu to be an offensive object.
Kurama also has problems handling guilt. When his mother was injured and in the hospital, Kurama felt guilty enough to steal the Mirror of Forlorn Hope, intending on sacrificing himself in order to save his mother. Another instance was when Kurama defeated the Gamekeeper, who turned out to be nothing more than a human kid with special powers. In the end, Kurama was forced to kill the boy in order to continue. The fact that the boy had been tricked and manipulated by the enemy into playing Kurama and his team drove Kurama to anger and guilt. When one of the enemy mocked him about being torn about the boy’s death, it is noted that Kurama reacted exactly as the enemy wanted, which was to flinch. In anger, Kurama promptly beheaded said enemy in less than a second. Quite literally.

Notable Possessions:
Aside from various seeds, Kurama does not really have any notable possessions. If you can count the roses he uses for his Rose Whip, he keeps them in his hair. (Hair? Yes, hair.) He also might use his hair to hide a variety of grasses or other plants that he might use to transform into weapons later on.

History:
When Kurama was a youko demon in the past, he was infamous for being the most-feared and most-ruthless demon thief in Makai. He was the leader of a band of thieves who followed him in his schemes and raids. He was known by such names as the “King of Thieves”, and “Demon Thief Youko”. It was said that he could get through any lock and any barricade that kept him from his goal. He was also an A-class demon, the highest-ranked level besides the incredibly rare S-class. This level made him equivalent to having the powers of what humans would name as gods in their religions or in myths.
But one day, due to some stroke of bad luck, Kurama was gravely injured by a bounty hunter. In order to escape death, Kurama fled Makai with his soul in the shape of a white fox. Hiding in the human world, he possessed the soulless, unborn child of a human woman. Kurama intended on living inside this human body for ten years, which would be the time it would take to regain his demon powers, and then return to Makai. But something unexpected happened.
One day, as young Shuuichi was reaching for some jars up in a high cupboard, he lost his balance, knocking over some plates. The plates shattered on the floor and the chair toppled, with Shuuichi’s head right above the shattered plates. His human mother, Shiori, saved her “son” by reaching her hands under him, preventing his head from any injury, but getting injured herself. This act opened Kurama’s eyes to all the grievances he’d caused his human “parents.” Afterwards, his mother became ill and, having become widow quite early on, she was left with no one to care for her but Shuuichi. Kurama had tried leaving many times before, but he always came back from guilt. It was then that Kurama took it upon himself to remain with his mother and pay back for all those years of deceiving her and causing her grief. Thus he became the perfect son.
To cure his mother of her illness, Kurama teamed up with the demons Hiei, who was an old friend from the Makai, and Gouki in order to steal the Three Treasures, one of which was the Mirror of Forlorn Hope, which could grant the user any wish during the full moon at the cost of the user’s life. When he actually attained it, he made a deal with Yusuke, the spirit detective in charge of recovering the treasures, bringing him to his mother and explaining to him why he needed the mirror. Kurama told him that after he used it, Yusuke could have it.
In the end, the Mirror ended up granting Kurama’s wish without taking any life, due to a selfless act from Yusuke. Later on, Kurama took a blow from Hiei’s sword for Yusuke and helped Yusuke beat Hiei and return the treasures.
In order to redeem themselves for their acts of crime, Hiei and Kurama were ordered to join Yusuke and his team in their spirit detective duties. They were also asked to be part of the team sent to compete in the Dark Tournament.
During the Dark Tournament, Kurama was turned back into Youko as part of the effects of a smoke that his opponent said could turn back time on the person who inhaled it. Kurama was then turned into what he was in the past, which was Youko Kurama. He also regained his past self’s cold personality, it seemed. When the smoke disappeared, Kurama changed back into his human form.
Before going up against Karasu, one of their former enemies gave Kurama a potion. The potion was made from the plant called Fruit of the Past Life. After testing it, Kurama found that by drinking it, he could return to his past youko form for fifteen minutes.
During the actual fight, Kurama changed back before the time was up. Later on, he found that this was because the power of the past Youko was transferring to his present form. Kurama gradually regains the full powers of the youko from then on, eventually being able to change into Youko without the need of the potion. It is also noted that by now, Kurama was changing not into what he was before – which was a cruel and heartless demon thief – but into his true form, complete with his present personality.
Once the human world was saved from consumption by the demon world, Kurama joined Yomi, one of the three Kings of the Makai world, as an advisor, trying to stabilize Makai in the future times. Kurama and Yomi knew each other from when Kurama was still the King of Thieves. In fact, Yomi at that time had been his brash right-hand man, whom Kurama had hired another demon to kill. Yomi had been blinded by that encounter. Unbeknownst to Kurama, Yomi had kept the defeated demon alive in a room. Leading Kurama to him, Yomi revealed that the person who had sent the demon to kill Yomi had been a silver-haired youko with cold eyes.
Yomi asked that Kurama be his right-hand man, vice-versa of their previous roles. Yomi also used this parents as a leverage for his request. Therefore, Kurama was more forced to become his right-hand rather than asked to. But in the end, it worked out fine because Kurama was seeking to bring the Makai to rights.
By this time, Kurama had brought his level as Youko to being S-class, and he was having trouble keeping Youko from dominating him. Kurama in human form was already at A-class level by then. It seemed that, as Youko became stronger, Kurama would start acting more and more like his past self. During battles, Kurama transforms into Youko Kurama and often surpasses the enemy. Kurama is torn between his three identities, Kurama as part of Yusuke’s team, Youko Kurama of the past, and his human identity, Minamino Shuuichi. He was deliberating this problem when he was interrupted by a certain Consulo.
Kurama was brought to Econtra while returning to his human home from a trip to the Makai.

Uzumaki Naruto (OU) windsofchange - Kurama first encounted Naruto in human form when he was aspiring to improve the garden back in the old compound. Afterwards, when Youko Kurama finally appeared, Naruto became an interest to Youko because of the strange scent that Youko Kurama caught off of him - which is the Kyuubi. Human Kurama considers to him to be potential friend and Youko Kurama considers him to be a good opponent and an object of interest.
